Hello, for this post i chose Edgar Degas' oil painting that is called either Le Viol or Interieur, both are used. I chose this painting because i had liked his style in another painting that we went over in class so i chose another. This painting seems to have a lot of meaning but seems uncertain what Degas was trying to imply truly. But it seems that the man is up to no good as he is blocking the door and there is a young lady slightly undressed in the room. The lighting and composition is very interesting here. I get drawn into the light of the lamp and the darkness of the mans suit at the same time it seems. The lamp gives a very dramatic feel to this piece like something bad has happened, who knows. I really like how he can get very detailed at certain points but then more towards foggy and and blurred in other spots that arnt as important or parts of mystery. Very good oil painting and painter obviously. I like.

  1. Perhaps she was a ballet dancer or entertainer who was moonlighting for a patron. Definitely tells an interesting story.

  2. this has a feeling of a murder story about to happen, kinda like one of Edgar Allen Poe's story, i believe it's the Raven?? it's been a while since I read it. anyways, it might be the fact that there is only one light source in the painting and the male figurine just looming in the darkness. It's a rather elaborate piece though.
