Hello, for this post i chose Edgar Degas' oil painting that is called either Le Viol or Interieur, both are used. I chose this painting because i had liked his style in another painting that we went over in class so i chose another. This painting seems to have a lot of meaning but seems uncertain what Degas was trying to imply truly. But it seems that the man is up to no good as he is blocking the door and there is a young lady slightly undressed in the room. The lighting and composition is very interesting here. I get drawn into the light of the lamp and the darkness of the mans suit at the same time it seems. The lamp gives a very dramatic feel to this piece like something bad has happened, who knows. I really like how he can get very detailed at certain points but then more towards foggy and and blurred in other spots that arnt as important or parts of mystery. Very good oil painting and painter obviously. I like.

MANS LOVE STORY

Hello readers. For this post i chose 'Mans Love Story' by Clifford Possum. I dont really like this piece very much because of its randomness but it does have some interest which is why i chose it. I do respect the fact that this is a dot painting. It must of taking a lot of time and thought to complete this. The use of color just seems very odd. I think if he would have kept out the really dark brown and black out of the background and used some other color to keep a nice flow it would have been better, i just feel crowded and confused even though i know the story of this. The story that he translates is clever between the man, women, footprints and such. With his style and way of expressing emotion, it seems to have paved a path for other artists at that time and so on to try this style and mix similar styles.

San Girolamo

For this post i chose Caravaggios San Girolamo. I chose this piece because i actually really like Caravaggios paintings, and this one caught my eye because it seemed so intense and deep. It looks like this character is a saint judging by the advanced and detailed halo behind his head. The red cloth that he wears also seems to have some importance of who he is and what he is about. I am loving the fact that it is light on the side that he is working and very dark on the side of the skull. It seems to give a very haunting feeling that maybe death or something of the sort is watching his moves. I dont know exactly what this piece means, but i would say that he's trying to find or translate something important in these holy books and maybe time is running out for this old saint? Overall i like the dark vibe and feeling of his work here. : )

For my blog i chose the WILTON DYPTYCH. What stood out in this piece from the other generally bland artwork in the 14th century is the fact that there is a ridiculous amount of angels gathered and cluttered around mary and jesus. In the left panel it looks like a king and other royalty figures have gathered to praise and give offerings to christ, because if they dont all of those angels are gonna beat the royalty out of them(just kidding)haha. Anyway the movement in the right panel that the blue puts off is pretty cool and gets your eye moving. All in all this is a nice flashy piece that shows devotion to religion and seems to have been a little worn over the years.
